1.    Five major world  religions.

 

 

- This activity allows students to research and identify various aspects of five major world religions including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism. Students will use the World Wide Web to conduct research.

 

Objectives:

 

-  Students will become more familiar with some of the religions of the world and their important teachings.

Students will improve their computer skills by using the World Wide Web for research and recording specific information in word-processing tables.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.    A new culture –

   what a shock!

 

 

This lesson will enable students to gain a better understanding of vocabulary connected with freedom of conscience and religion. Students will research individuals who act to support these freedoms.

Objectives:

-          Students will demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary connected with the topic

-          describe and evaluate key people involved in fighting for freedom

-          demonstrate effective interview skills through  preparing interview with an individual engaged in freedom fight

-          design and select additional projects in which he/she can personally support ideas of freedom of conscience and religion within the community.

 

 

 

 

 

3. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights - documents analyze.

 

In this lesson, students will explore the meaning of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was passed by the United Nations unanimously in 1948. They will use art to visually show how each of these articles relates to their own lives and then write an editorial discussing their opinion about the value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

 

Objectives:

 

The students will:

-explain the history and meaning of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

- develop a caption and visual depicting their understanding of one of the articles from the UDHR ( freedom of conscience and religion)

- write an editorial discussing their opinions about the value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

- decide whether they support the UDHR or not
