( Generally speaking)  freedom is like an eagle which ploughs the sky of our heart without landing, in sunshine or  rain, snow or wind, helping us up the hill of our soul again.

Definitions of freedom with reference to national and international documents of the past and the present.

In our school and under the supervision of the teachers, the students have made some remarks about the concept of “freedom”. All of them have agreed to say that  freedom  is worth defending and promoting  in every situation, at school, at home and among friends.

Several definitions of freedom have been discussed, some students have identified  it as the highest wish of the human being, which is only comparable to the need of happiness, of loving and being loved. Some students have attributed it to the dream that sometimes seems unachievable, while others have defined it as a feat that is transformed into reality as soon as we find it within ourselves. Eventually, some students have compared it to a difficult path to follow even though it is fascinating because no one will ever be able to deprive another person of this inner freedom.

In our school, we have decided, without claiming to be exhaustive, to focus on the following documents, among the many that are available concerning the topic of liberty:

From “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen” (French: La Déclaration des droits de l'Homme et du citoyen) was adopted August 26 or 27, 1789.

Article 4: Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights. These limits can only be determined by law.

From”The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)  adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (10 December 1948 at Palais de Chaillot, Paris).:

Article 1:All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. Article 2: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

From   “THE CONSTITUTION OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC” 27th Day of December 1947

Article2: The Republic recognises and guarantees the inviolable human rights…                 Article 3: All citizens have equal social status and are equal before the law, without regard to
their sex, race, language, religion, political opinions, and personal or social conditions…
Articles 13: Personal liberty is  inviolable

It is a long path to achieve the necessary knowledge of freedom  and the goal  is still far. Furthermore, it is a longer way  still towards the conscious attainment of the freedom of thought,  freedom of speech and freedom of information, both demanding and challenging, but still essential to understand the roots of the “liberty of being” both as individuals and  part of the community.
