Filippo Mazzei’s Interview

We, students of the third classes of Sant’ Angelo in Vado ‘s middle school, in this little work that we made , want to propose you  a simple interview that has  as protagonist Filippo Mazzei , an Italian doctor and adventurer born in Poggio Caiano and considered one of the American Revolution’s Fathers.

The 22th October 1779..

The Journalist: Mr. Mazzei , what were the reasons that convinced you to leave London and move to Virginia?

Mazzei: First, I always wanted to have a farm here in Virginia. The main reason is a little more complicated : after 10 years of life in London, I am aware that the British Government System is anything but efficient . So I moved to Virginia.

The Journalist: On which terms are you with Mr. Thomas Jefferson?

Mazzei: Since the first time I met him in “Virginia’s Assembly” in Williamsburg , here in Virginia , our friendly relations , based on reciprocal estimation, has been markedly increasing . So I’ve got a possession ( a house with fields) ,in Virginia, next to his one .

The Journalist: Do you think you have some sort of influence on Jefferson’s decisions?

Mazzei:  I think I do. I helped my friend during the American Revolution inspiring him with my ideas. We share an unrestrained love for Freedom. We greatly enjoy walking together talking and comparing our ideas.

The Journalist: Which important men helped you carrying out the project of your farm called Oglethorpe?

Mazzei: Among the people who helped me to realize this dream , there are George Washington , Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Adams , George Mason and finally John Page .
