QUESTIONNAIRE

ABOUT THE LIBERTY OF CONSCIENCE AND RELIGION

GIVEN TO THE SECOND AND THIRD CLASSES OF SANT’ANGELO IN VADO SECONDARY SCHOOL

In our school there are students between the age of 11-14. We chose to give the questionnaire the second and third classes (12/14), for an amount of 112 pupils, 49 of which are girls and 63 boys.

The topic, quite difficult to broach considering the pupils’ age, aroused their interest, because the 21% of the 112 students is not italian: they come from countries outside the European Community, or from East Europe. Between them there are catholics, orthodox, waldenses, buddhists, Jehovah’s witnesses, muslims.

Moreover, to extend our students’ knowledge and experience, we organized a meeting with a Hebrew rabbi, teacher at the University in Milan, who explained the history, traditions and the religions of the Hebrew people, and let also know the various symbols used in their ceremonies.

If we take into consideration the results of the questionnaire gathering data, we can infer that our students are very curious to know more about the different religions all over the world, and even their awareness about the people’s liberty of practising their own faith.

With regards to the liberty of conscience, it’s been more difficult for the pupils to identify its limits in the society.

The Religion teacher’s involvement gave the possibility to discuss the topic in all the classes.
